A total of 776,126 lightnings hit the peninsula and the Balearic Islands during this past August. This is the highest number of impacts since 2000.

It has been a very stormy month in the peninsula, in which there were thunderstorms every day except one. This has happened, among other reasons, due to the presence of cold air on the peninsula and the humidity of the Mediterranean.

These storms have caused numerous forest fires in our country putting people, animals and property in serious danger.

It should be noted that in September, the activity of the atmosphere begins to be more active and it is usual for storms to discharge more lightning. Therefore, the experts describe as “normal” the intense storms that are affecting the entire peninsula during this last week.
